Coalition for Reliable Power

Coalition Issues

  • The Governor of West Virginia needs to appoint commissioners who are knowledgeable about the concerns of average citizens, who place the reliability of West Virginia’s electrical system first and who will protect property owners and businesses from the self-serving projects of out of state corporations.  We need creative solutions to our state’s utility and energy future.  We need leadership from our PSC, not the same old corporate favors.  Commissioner Jon McKinney's term on the Commission expires June 30, 2011.  Send an email to Governor Tomblin today and tell him the public wants to be served by a fresh, new, consumer friendly, accessible Commission, and not more of the same, old industry insiders whose prior experience alienates them from the public they are sworn to serve.

  • We need to press for the rebuilding of the Pruntytown to Mt. Storm 500 kV transmission line in West Virginia, which will increase capacity and reliability without destructive, expensive and unneeded new transmission projects, such as PATH, TrAIL and MAPP.  Rebuilding aged, inefficient transmission lines is cheaper, faster and requires no new rights-of-way.  It just makes sense!
  • We support citizen involvement at the Public Service Commission to improve FirstEnergy's proposed Energy Efficiency program in West Virginia so that it will offer real benefits to customers at the lowest cost and set firm, but realistic, goals.
